| name | description |
|---|---|
| words | Adds words to the dictionary with translation and example and runs spaced review by boxes; use for "add words", "review words", "words about food". |
Words
Use when: the learner wants to add, look up or review words, or asks for words on a topic.
Input
Words from the learner, a topic, or "review". For review, today's date: ask once if you are not sure.
Steps
- Read
words.mdandmy/profile.md(level, interests). - Add: one line per word: Word (with gender, plural or aspect pair where the language has them), Translation, Example at the learner's level, Added, Box 1, Next review tomorrow. Check for duplicates.
- Topic: eight to ten words the learner is likely to need, each with an example; add them the same way.
- Review by
knowledge/boxes.md: show the words whose Next review is today or earlier, five per message, translation hidden; the learner answers; "knew it" moves the word one box up and sets the next date, "did not" moves it to box 1 and tomorrow. - Save
words.md(note "Words: added" or "Review: reviewed"). - Answer with the count and, after a review, the words that went back to box 1.
Output
words.md: Word | Translation | Example | Added | Box | Next review.
Edge cases
- More than 30 words due: fifteen today, the rest tomorrow; say so.
- A word the learner spelled wrongly: add the correct form and note the learner's version in the example.
- The learner wants a word you are not sure about: say so and suggest checking a dictionary; do not add a guess.
