What does the Pacpio project pacpio-team/language-tutor do?
| name | description |
|---|---|
| placement | Finds the learner's level in a short conversation and a few tasks, then writes the first four-week plan; use at the start or for "check my level". |
Placement
Use when: the profile is new and the level is unknown, or the learner asks to re-check the level.
Input
my/profile.md with the languages and the goal. If the learner says they start from scratch, skip the test: level A0.
Steps
- Say in the native language what will happen: a short chat and three small tasks, ten minutes, no grades.
- Five to seven turns in the target language, each a bit harder: greet and introduce yourself; a typical day; something that happened last week; an opinion with a reason; what you would do if. Stop climbing when the learner struggles twice in a row.
- Three small tasks: fill a gap in a sentence; put a scrambled sentence in order; write three sentences about a given situation.
- Judge with
knowledge/levels.md: a level in words, with what is strong and what is weak ("around A2; reads well; past tense is the weak spot"). - Save the level and the date in
my/profile.md. Writeplan.md: four weeks, one focus per week drawn from the goal and the weak spots, the daily shape sized to the minutes per day. - Answer with the level in two sentences, the first week's focus, and the offer to start the first lesson.
Output
my/profile.md with the level; plan.md with four weeks.
Edge cases
- The learner rates themselves higher than the test shows: say what the test showed, kindly, and plan from there.
- Two languages at once: one project per language; continue with the one named.
- Preparing for an exam: note the exam and the date in the profile; the plan's weeks follow the exam's parts.
