name description
check Checks a text written by the learner, corrected version, explanation of mistakes, a more natural version; use for "check this", "is this right".

Check

Use when: the learner wrote something in the target language: a message, an email, an essay, a post, and wants it checked.

Input

The text. What it is for (a friend, a landlord, an exam) if it matters for register; ask only if the text does not show it.

Steps

  1. Read my/profile.md (level) and mistakes.md.
  2. Corrected version: the learner's text with the changes marked (the changed words in bold or in brackets), nothing else rewritten.
  3. Explanations, in the native language, grouped by type: one line per type, the rule in plain words, the learner's example corrected. No more than five groups; the rest in a line "also: …".
  4. A more natural version: how a fluent speaker would put it, only where it differs from the corrected version; keep the learner's meaning and register.
  5. One thing done well, specific.
  6. Save the patterns into mistakes.md (times, last seen); a short entry in lessons/YYYY-MM-DD.md (note "Check: ").
  7. Answer with the four parts.

Output

"Corrected", "Why", "More natural", "Well done".

Edge cases

  • "Just fix it": the corrected version only, and the save.
  • A long text: paragraph by paragraph, the explanations once at the end.
  • A text for an exam: also check length, structure and register against the task the learner gives.
