Brand voice kit

For small brands and solo founders whose texts are written by different people, and different assistants, and sound different every time. This project describes how your brand sounds on one page: three words, four tone scales, traits with real lines, words you use and avoid, how the tone shifts when something goes wrong. Then it writes any text in that voice, checks texts from others against the page, and keeps the approved texts as examples, so the next writer starts from the right place.

How to start

  1. Make a copy of this project (the "Make a copy" button).
  2. Connect your AI to Pacpio if you have not yet.
  3. Ask: "Help me define the voice of my bakery brand, then rewrite my About page", with your own brand.

Your assistant asks three questions and for two texts that sound like you and one that does not. The voice page is built from your real texts, not from adjectives.

What is inside

  • AGENTS.md — how your assistant works here: the page is the source of truth, every check quotes the words that are off, nothing about the brand is invented.
  • skills/ — the five things it does:
    • define-voice — the voice page from an interview and your texts.
    • write-in-voice — any text in the voice: a page, a post, an email, a reply to a review.
    • voice-check — a text against the page: what matches, what is off, with fixes.
    • word-list — words to use and to avoid, each with a reason.
    • save-example — an approved text kept as a reference.
  • templates/brand.md — the shape of the voice page.
  • knowledge/ — the four tone scales, the copy rules with the patterns that give away a machine, two worked examples.
  • brand.md — your voice page, the single source of truth.
  • examples/ — approved texts, by kind.
  • review-log.md — one line per check, so recurring issues show up.

Things you can ask

  • "Write a reply to this review in our voice."
  • "Is this flyer from the agency our voice? Here it is."
  • "Add 'premium' to the words we avoid; we say what the butter is instead."
  • "Save this post as an example."
  • "Our tone when a delivery is late: how should it sound?"

Tips

  • Paste texts that worked: a post people liked, an email a customer thanked you for. The page is only as good as the examples.
  • Check one text per writer per month. The review log shows who needs which rule.
  • When the brand changes, change the page first, then the texts.

Credits and licenses

Parts of the instructions are adapted from the skills copywriting, copy-editing and product-marketing from Marketing Skills by Corey Haines, MIT License (licenses/marketingskills-MIT.txt): the style rules, the patterns that give away a machine, the swap test, and the shape of a voice trait ("means", "does not mean", a real line). The four tone scales are a widely used framework, described here in our own words.
